Experience the natural splendor of Castellón with a trip to the San José Caves, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will appreciate its geological wonders on foot and via boat.
San José Caves Day Trip
Our adventure begins at the scheduled time when we gather in front of the Peniscola Tourist Office. From there, we embark on a minibus journey covering 65 miles (105 kilometers) to reach the magnificent caves located in Vall de Uxó, part of the Sierra Espadán Natural Park.
Are you aware that these San José caves were inhabited over 15,000 years ago? Throughout our excursion, you will learn numerous intriguing facts while cruising through the caves' interior and navigating the longest underground river in Europe. The mysterious depth of this river remains unknown, as speleologists have yet to determine it.
While aboard the boat, marvel at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites that adorn the cave walls. Additionally, we will stroll through an enchanting 820-foot (250 meter) long gallery. You might be surprised to discover that the temperature in the cave stays consistent at 20ºC throughout the year.
After a 40-minute exploration of the caves and gaining insights into their geological characteristics, we will return to the surface. Subsequently, we will make our way back to Peniscola, concluding our trip after approximately 5 to 6 hours.
