Tour of Quiahuiztlán, Cempoala & La Antigua
Our adventure begins as we set out for approximately 75 km (46 miles) north to reach the archaeological site of Quiahuiztlán, often referred to as the "place where the rain rises in the heights." This remarkable location features remnants of one of the most exquisite pre-Hispanic cemeteries belonging to the Totonac culture. Among its treasures, we will encounter pyramids and an ancient ball game, all offering breathtaking views of the stunning Villa Rica beaches along the Gulf of Mexico.
Next, we will head to Cempoala, known as "the place of twenty waters" due to the many rivers that embrace the region. As one of the most vital archaeological sites within the Totonac culture, we will observe significant structures, including the renowned Temple of the Chimeneas, the Temple of the Chimneys, and the circle of Gladiators, among other impressive pyramidal bases.
Our journey continues to La Antigua, a quaint town characterized by its lush trees along the banks of the Huitzilapan River, also known as the Hummingbird River. Here, we will discover the remnants of the Spanish conquest, including the Casa del Cabildo (Town Council House), the first Catholic church in Mexico, and Hernán Cortés's residence.
After soaking in this rich historical atmosphere and taking a stroll across the hanging bridge, we will return you to Veracruz or Boca del Río. The tour concludes after approximately 7 hours from the time of pickup.
