Embark on an exploration of Aberdeenshire's coastal villages, where the majestic northeast Scottish cliffs will serve as the backdrop for your journey through quaint fishing communities.

Tour of Aberdeenshire's Coastal Villages

We will convene at the William Wallace statue, ready to venture into some of the region's most stunning locations.

Our adventure begins in the lovely villages of Gardenstown and Crovie, both perched gracefully on the striking red sandstone cliffs that define this landscape. As we navigate through these delightful towns, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Scottish countryside while uncovering their fascinating historical narratives.

Next, we’ll journey to Pennan, a charming fishing settlement with origins tracing back to the 1700s. This picturesque village gained fame as the filming location for the movie Local Hero, featuring actor Burt Lancaster. Close by, explore the scenic New Aberdour beach, where ancient caves once functioned as havens for smugglers. Here, the coastal tales of Aberdeenshire will come to life as we reveal the secrets behind these clandestine ventures.

Our next destination will be Fraserburgh, a town brimming with intriguing history. It is home to one of Scotland's oldest lighthouses and has roots as a former castle. While we stroll through this historic town, you'll admire its architectural beauty and the vibrant seafood port, renowned as the most extensive in the area.

We will then proceed to Cruden Bay, where we will pause to investigate the remarkable ruins of New Slains Castle. This structure, dating back to the 16th century and perched dramatically on a cliff, offers insight into the captivating history of the region.

To wrap up our tour, we will visit the delightful port of Collieston. Here, we will share the interesting tale of the smuggler Phillip Kennedy, adding an intriguing finale to our day.

After a full eight-hour exploration of Aberdeenshire's coastal gems, we will return to our original meeting point in Aberdeen.
