During this trip to the Itaipu Dam and the Tatí Yupí Biological Reserve, we will explore two significant landmarks in the Alto Paraná region of eastern Paraguay.

Description

On the day of the excursion, we will greet you at the Shopping del Este shopping centre. From this meeting point in Ciudad del Este, our journey will take us to Hernandarias, a notable municipality in Alto Paraná recognized for its rich Guaraní heritage.

To gain insights into the cultural significance of this area, our first stop will be the Museo de la Tierra Guaraní. This museum hosts an impressive permanent exhibition, showcasing the largest anthropological and biological collection within Alto Paraná. Here, you will learn about the vibrant culture of the region's indigenous communities, along with their most important customs and rituals.

Following our museum visit, we will proceed to the Itaipu Dam, renowned as one of the largest hydroelectric dams globally. Situated on the Paraná River, which marks the boundary between Paraguay and Brazil, we will observe the process of renewable energy generation. Our discussion will focus on sustainable practices and the clean energy resources available to help protect our environment.

Next, we will enjoy a pause at a local restaurant for a chance to savor a meal. After lunch, our journey continues to the Tatí Yupí Biological Refuge. This nature reserve, located along the banks of the Paraná River, allows you to explore various species of native Paraguayan flora, such as cedar trees, pink trumpet trees, and guatambús.

As we explore the reserve, which spans over 75,000 hectares of forests and wetlands, we will observe how these vital ecosystems support countless species, many of which are currently classified as endangered. For instance, the Tinamus and various other South American birds can be found in this habitat.

After concluding our exploration of the reserve, we will return to our original meeting point in Ciudad del Este, with an expected arrival time of 3 to 4 hours post pick-up.
