On the scheduled date of the tour, we will convene at the intersection of Bolivar and Adolfo Alsina streets, marking the starting point of our engaging journey through the colonial churches of Buenos Aires.
The adventure kicks off as we make our way to the Monserrat neighborhood, aiming to explore the Church of San Ignacio de Loyola. This church, known for being the first to feature a brick structure completed in 1886, showcases stunning German baroque design. Inside, we can admire intricate colonial-style altarpieces that encapsulate the essence of the era.
Continuing our journey, we will arrive at the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco de Asis, which dates back to 1754. We'll pause in front of its neo-baroque façade, paying particular attention to the tympanum adorned with statues of St. Francis, Christopher Columbus, and Dante Alighieri.
Our next destination will be the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Rosario de la Defensa y la Reconquista de Buenos Aires. Constructed in 1751 by the Dominican Order, this historic site withstood the English invasions of 1806 and 1807.
During our visit, we will examine the preserved cannonball marks on its left tower and view the British flags displayed as historical artifacts. In the atrium, the mausoleum of Manuel Belgrano, a key figure in Argentina's fight for independence, awaits our exploration.
Finally, we will stop at the Church of Nuestra Señora de Belén, often referred to as the Church of San Pedro González Telmo, located in the vibrant San Telmo neighborhood.
