Join us to explore the Santander landscape on this hiking route along the Camino Real to the Río Suárez canyon, one of the most impressive places in the heart of the Colombian Andes.
Activity Details
At the designated time, we will meet at the Simón Bolívar Statue and begin the hiking activity along the Camino Real in Barichara to the Río Suárez Canyon.
Prior to starting the hike, there will be an introduction to the geography and history of this ancestral trail, built by an indigenous community in the pre-Columbian era.
We will then descend along the Camino Real, crossing a cobbled path that drops 300 metres (984 ft) through the Colombian rainforest.
The trail will connect with the village of Cabrera, leading us to the canyon of the Río Suárez. We will discuss the significance of this waterway, which flows through the departments of Boyacá and Santander and spans 172 kilometres (106 miles) in the Eastern Cordillera.
During the hike, we will pass by 2 waterfalls, stopping at the second for a rest and drink while enjoying the natural surroundings.
Afterwards, we will return to Cabrera for a guided tour to learn about its culture and traditions, visiting the central chapel, park, and a museum. We will have time to refresh before returning.
We will conclude our journey at the starting point after a total of 6 hours of hiking.
