Upon gathering at the central Teatro Petruzzelli, we will board a minibus and embark on our journey to Lecce. During the 1.5-hour ride, the guide will share intriguing stories, historical insights, and entertaining anecdotes about the city. You will absorb a wealth of information!
Arriving in Lecce, we’ll commence a thorough walking exploration of the historic areas. Strolling through the most distinguished streets, we will encounter the key monuments that adorn this Apulian city. Our visit will include the striking Piazza Sant’Oronzo, where the Roman amphitheater and the column dedicated to the patron saint stand proud.
Next, we will visit the splendid Basilica of Santa Croce, an outstanding baroque creation, and admire the refined Piazza del Duomo, featuring its Cathedral and bell tower. It’s sure to captivate you!
As we proceed, the guide will elaborate on the roots of Lecce's baroque style, alongside insights into its vast artistic background and local customs, including the well-known craft of cartapesta, or paper-mâché art.
