Tour Overview

We will convene at the designated meeting point near the Alhambra at the scheduled time, where our exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage Site begins.

Our first stop will be the remarkable Nasrid Palaces, the stately homes where the rulers of Andalusia fostered the arts, indulged in romance, and ultimately faced the heartache of their city's loss.

Within the Alhambra—whose title traces its roots to the Arabic term al Qal'a al hamra, translating to “red fortress”—we will traverse the courtyards and halls of three significant palaces: the Mexuar Palace, the Comares Palace, and the Lions Palace. Of particular interest in the latter is the renowned Court of the Lions, featuring its celebrated fountain. Nearby, we'll also observe another fountain stained a deep red, a testament to legends of a historic conflict between the Nasrid and Abencerraje clans.

The Alhambra serves as a pivotal monument in the History of Art. As we proceed toward the Charles V Palace, we will delve into the intricate details found throughout the Nasrid Palaces. An interesting fact? Charles V reportedly spent his honeymoon in this very location with Isabella of Portugal, and it's said that Philip II of Spain may have been conceived within these walls.

Continuing our guided visit, we'll encounter the remains of the Medina and the Alcazaba, the fortress that historically safeguarded the Alhambra. Here, we’ll spot the Torre de la Vela, whose bell tolls annually on January 2nd in remembrance of Granada's conquest by the Catholic Monarchs.

Additionally, we will stroll through the lush gardens of the Generalife. This exquisite oasis, adjacent to the Alhambra, once served as a serene respite for the Nasrid emirs, who enjoyed the cooling presence of fountains and irrigation channels while contemplating both political and romantic ambitions.

Please note that admissions to the Alhambra are limited and tend to sell out rapidly. It is advisable to secure your tour well ahead of time, particularly during weekends and holiday periods.
