On this day trip to the Sonador River, participants will explore the turquoise pools of Yásica Arriba, discover cacao and coffeeplantations, while experiencing the rural essence of the northern Dominican Republic. Lunch is included.
Day Trip Details
After picking you up from the selected meeting point, we’ll embark on a journey of approximately 1 hour heading southeast from Puerto Plata. Our destination is the rural community of Yásica Arriba, a tranquil area where life is influenced by the flow of the Sonador River.
Upon arrival, a brief introduction will provide insights into the history of the Sonador River, community traditions, and guidelines for respectful enjoyment of the surroundings. Once prepared, the group will commence a hike lasting approximately 45 minutes along trails in the Dominican jungle.
The hike will take us through coffee and cacao plantations, surrounded by fruit trees and vibrant vegetation in rich shades of green. Participants can expect to see tropical birds, butterflies, and small reptiles basking in the sun near the riverbank.
This route leads us to the natural pools of the Sonador River, where there will be approximately 1.5 hours to enjoy swimming in the turquoise, crystal-clear waters. The soothing sounds of flowing water and the cool shade create an ideal environment for relaxation.
As hunger arises, the group will enjoy a typicallunch featuring rice, beans, stewed meat, and salad, accompanied by soft drinks and water, providing a delightful break.
With a light spirit and a content stomach, the group will begin the return hike to the vehicle. From there, we will head back to the starting point, concluding the tour after approximately 6.5-7 hours.
