Next, we will visit Ásbyrgi Canyon, a remarkable natural formation characterized by cliffs rising 100 m (328 ft) that enclose a lush forest. According to folklore, this canyon was created by the hoofprint of Sleipnir, the mythical eight-legged steed belonging to Odin, and we’ll share the fascinating stories behind it.
Our main highlight will be the majestic Dettifoss, known as the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Witnessing over 193 cubic m (6,816 cubic ft) of water cascading into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon is a breathtaking sight that is sure to leave an impression.
A visit to the quaint fishing town of Húsavík, renowned as the “Whale Capital,” is next. Here, we will explore the charming harbor before heading to the stunning cliffs of Tjörnes, offering breathtaking ocean vistas and a chance to see nesting seabirds during the summer months.
As we continue, we will find ourselves in the unique Námaskarð (Hverir) geothermal area. We will wander through bubbling mud pools and steam vents, surrounded by an intriguing palette of mineral colors.
The final leg of our tour brings us around Lake Mývatn, where we will pause at a scenic viewpoint to take in its volcanic craters and lava formations—perfect for capturing memorable photos!
