Around the scheduled departure time, we will collect you from your hotel in Barahona and set our course northwest to kick off our day trip to Lake Enriquillo.
Throughout the roughly two-hour drive, we will traverse through various quaint Dominican villages and pass by the monument of the Taíno chief Enriquillo, the revered historical figure after whom the lake draws its name. A brief stop at a viewpoint will allow you to capture stunning photographs of this picturesque Caribbean landscape.
Upon reaching our destination, you will get to explore a unique ecosystem. Lake Enriquillo is remarkable as it stands nearly 40 m below sea level. In this arid environment, accented with lush springs and small streams, we’ll board a traditional boat for a waterborne adventure. We’ll navigate to a specific stretch of the shore that offers an excellent chance to spot crocodiles residing in the region. Prepare to be astonished!
After this thrilling boat exploration, a well-deserved lunch featuring local dishes will await to refresh you.
Following our meal, we will journey back and make a stop in Neyba, celebrated for its extensive grape cultivation. Also, we’ll visit Las Marías, a lovely public swimming spot popular among locals, perfect for unwinding and soaking in the atmosphere.
