Are you ready to delve into the scenic Dutch countryside? This excursion to Zaanse Schans will take you from Amsterdam to a picturesque village renowned for its iconic Dutch windmills, a hallmark of the Netherlands!

Trip Overview

Prepare to immerse yourself in the quintessential rural scenery of the Netherlands. We will gather at number 4 Stationsplein, located directly opposite Amsterdam Central Station, and embark on a bus journey heading north.

Within a 30-minute drive, we will reach the enchanting locale where the renowned windmills of Zaanse Schans stand proudly on the banks of the Zaan River. These remarkable wooden structures, with their massive sails, symbolize Dutch heritage.

As we stroll past the windmills, which flourished during the 16th through 18th centuries, you'll receive insights into their significance in the historical spice trade. For those interested, there will be an opportunity to venture inside one of the windmills and discover its intricate mechanisms.

Following our exploration of the windmill area beside the Zaan River, we will visit a traditional clog workshop. Here, you will learn about the craftsmanship behind these distinctive wooden shoes and their unique design.

Next, we will proceed to a cheesemonger, where a delightful tasting of Dutch cheeses awaits. You will have the chance to savor several typical varieties, though the Netherlands boasts hundreds of options, including some quite unusual ones. Did you know that there is a cheese reminiscent of beer?

As the visit concludes, you will enjoy approximately an hour of leisure to wander through the charming village. Once this time is up, we'll regroup to return to our original meeting place in Amsterdam.
