Instead of heading directly to the monument, we initiate our adventure at the base of the enchanting forest, taking a leisurely 20 to 30-minute uphill walk punctuated by stops along the way. This hike is designed to be accessible for individuals of all fitness levels.
As we ascend, we'll delve into the historical and strategic aspects of the site's significance, discussing why the castle was established here, perched 112 meters (367 feet) above sea level, overseeing the entire Bay of Palma. The first segment of our journey allows for a connection with the environmental features, providing an insight into how the castle might have been viewed in the Middle Ages: a stronghold gradually revealing its majesty as one approaches.
We will pause at the Chapel of San Alonso Rodríguez, affectionately called Sa Capelleta, which dates back to 1885. During this visit, stories about the castle's inception, the role of King James II of Mallorca, and the strategic functionalities of the fortress will enhance our understanding before we enter the castle itself.
Upon reaching our destination, we will traverse the entry bridge that spans the moat, leading us to some of the castle's essential areas, including the Courtyard of Arms, the practical lower levels, the noble quarters, the Torre Mayor, and a breathtaking observation point.
After a journey lasting around 2 hours, we will conclude our exploration on the castle terraces, offering a breathtaking view of the entire bay below.
