Explore one of Spain’s important religious sites with this Montserrat Day Trip. Discover why historical figures visited Montserrat Abbey in search of the Holy Grail.
Day Trip Details
We'll meet at the Barcelona Nord bus station and travel to the Monastery of Montserrat, located just over an hour from Barcelona. This location was also visited by the Nazis in the 1940s searching for the Holy Grail.
Upon arrival, we will start with a guided tour of the Abbey of Montserrat, showcasing Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and learn about the abbey's history. The highlight of the tour is the Virgin of “la Moreneta,” the patron saint of Catalonia.
Following the 1-hour guided tour, you will have approximately 2.5 hours of free time for lunch at a nearby restaurant and personal exploration. Recommended activities include hiking to the Cross of San Miguel, visiting the cheese market, riding the funicular, or exploring the Montserrat Museum, which houses exceptional collections, including archaeological pieces and artworks by Berruguete, Caravaggio, Dalí, and Picasso.
Additionally, you can visit the Throne of the Virgin of Montserrat and enjoy the choir. Note that these activities require separate tickets, which must be purchased through the official Montserrat website.
After a day in Montserrat, we will reconvene to take the bus back to Barcelona, arriving 7 hours later at the starting point.
