Note: The lift that allows access to the panoramic terrace is currently out of service for maintenance and is designated primarily for individuals with reduced mobility.

About the Arc de Triomphe

Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte, possibly motivated by his own stature, sought a different way to reflect his legacy. Following the French victory at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, he commissioned the creation of a grand monument designed not only to commemorate this triumph but also to instill a sense of humility in those who admired its impressive architecture. Thus, the Arc de Triomphe was conceived, although Napoleon never witnessed its completion.

Situated at the end of the illustrious Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe prominently features the names of Napoleon's significant victories carved into its walls. Beneath the inscriptions, you will find the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where an eternal flame burns in tribute to those who perished and remain unidentified from both World Wars.

Hours of Operation

The Arc de Triomphe is open to visitors at the following times:

• From April 1 to September 30: Open Wednesdays to Mondays from 10 am to 11 pm and Tuesdays from 11 am to 11 pm
• From October 1 to March 31: Open Wednesdays to Mondays from 10 am to 10:30 pm and on Tuesdays from 11 am to 10:30 pm

Last entry is permitted 45 minutes prior to closing.

For security and visitor capacity reasons, the monument may close earlier during peak times. To maximize your visit, it is advisable to avoid scheduling for late in the day. Arriving after 11 am can help you navigate the morning rush.

Special Opening Hours in 2026

Special opening hours include:

• Every weekend, including Fridays, opening at 11 am
• From December 19 to January 4, opening at 11 am

Days with adjusted closing times:

• September 11: Closes at 5:30 pm to 8 pm (last admission at 4:50 pm and first admission at 8:10 pm)
• September 26: Opens at 8 pm
• November 11: Closed until noon; last admission occurs 45 minutes before closing
• December 24: Closes at 4 pm; last admission at 4:15 pm
• December 31: Closes at 4 pm; last admission at 4:15 pm

Free Admission Eligibility

Entry to the Arc de Triomphe is complimentary for the following groups:

• Young adults from the European Union aged 18 to 25
• Minors under 18 years old, regardless of nationality

Additionally, free entry is available for all on the first Sunday of each month between January 1 and March 31, and November 1 to December 31. The third weekend of September also offers free admission.

To receive the free admission mentioned, you must visit the site's ticket office and present a valid document proving your eligibility for a complimentary ticket.
