As we traverse the picturesque Waikato region, recognized as one of the globe's premier agricultural zones, enjoy the sight of towering mountains, friendly wildlife, swift rivers, and stunning landscapes. Be ready for some photo opportunities!
Our first stop will be the iconic Hobbiton, the celebrated movie locale from both the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies. Spend two hours wandering through The Shire, where you can explore 44 hobbit homes and gardens while uncovering fascinating filmmaking details. A refreshing drink at the legendary Green Dragon™ Inn will round out your experience. What could be better than savoring a hobbit brew beside the hearth?
Next, we will make our way to Tirau, affectionately dubbed the World Capital of Wrought Iron, en route to Rotorua. This charming town, adorned with whimsical wrought iron artwork, is sure to bring a smile to your face! We will pause for a meal when you start to feel hungry, allowing you to refuel for the next leg of the journey.
Upon arrival in Rotorua, prepare for an engaging exploration of the stunning Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland with a guided tour. Here, you will find yourself surrounded by breathtaking sights, including Lake Champagne, Devil’s Bath, mud pools, and geothermal craters. The vibrant colors and unique formations will transport you to another world.
Following this, we will take a scenic drive past Rotorua's notable attractions, including Lake Rotorua, the Rotorua Museum, the Government Gardens, Whangapipiro Spring, and the Blue Baths. If time permits, we might stop at a local store to sample some Manuka honey and perhaps pick up a souvenir. A delightful conclusion for the day!
