Discover the enchanting historic city in Provence through this Avignon Walking Tour, which includes an admission ticket and a guided exploration of the iconic Papal Palace situated along the banks of the Rhône!
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we will gather on Rue de la République to commence our guided journey through the historic center of Avignon.
Our adventure begins with a stroll along the Rhone’s banks, where we will encounter the renowned Pont d'Avignon. Although only a segment of this bridge remains, it presents a mesmerizing view without a full connection between the riverbanks. We will then ascend the steps leading up to the Rochers des Doms walls.
Adjacent to this site is the illustrious Papal Palace. Inside this Gothic masterpiece, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will explore the cloisters, chapel, and various rooms of the historic palace, uncovering the intriguing origins of the Papacy of Avignon. We will discuss the noteworthy period between 1309 and 1377, when seven popes resided in southern France.
As our tour progresses, we will make our way to the Place de l'Horloge. This central square showcases the beautiful façade of the City Hall and the Avignon Opera House, notable for its Greek-Roman architectural style.
After approximately 3.5 hours of exploration, our tour will conclude with a glass of Côtes du Rhône wine at a local restaurant in the heart of the city.
