Arriving in Edinburgh via cruise offers a unique opportunity to enhance your visit to the capital of Scotland. This excursion invites you to discover the city's regal history, famous sights, and charming streets.
Shore Excursion in Edinburgh
Your journey begins as we depart from the port, making our way to the Royal Yacht Britannia. This exquisite vessel served as the royal yacht of the British monarchy from 1954 until 1997.
Guests have the option to board the yacht and experience the spaces where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip journeyed, or alternatively, you can explore the Ocean Terminal or the enchanting area known as The Shore. This historic district is located in the center of Old Leith, a quaint port village that became part of Edinburgh in 1920.
Continuing into Edinburgh, we will embark on a city center tour, traversing the renowned Old Town. Our route includes a picturesque drive past the Palace of Holyrood House, which has served as the British monarch's residence in Scotland since the 16th century, hosting numerous significant royal occasions over the years.
Next, we ascend the Royal Mile towards Edinburgh Castle, which has stood majestically on Castle Rock since the Iron Age. Entering the castle is available as an optional add-on. Visitors who choose to explore the interior will find themselves in historic halls, view the Half Moon Battery—site of the famous One O'Clock Gun—and uncover iconic artifacts such as the Honours of Scotland. Those preferring to soak in the atmosphere outside can stroll around Castlehill, Edinburgh's oldest street, meander through the atmospheric closes and alleyways that branch off the Royal Mile, or visit St Giles' Cathedral.
Finally, we will enjoy a leisurely drive through the elegant New Town, taking in the beauty of its Georgian architecture before returning to the port, completing the excursion in approximately 6.5 hours.
